Manchester United set to pay Leicester now as they are desperate to bolster their defence and have made it their biggest priority. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men conceded 54 league goals – their worst tally since 1978/79 – and they will now be playing in the Europa League for the second time in three years. There is only one target that is in the club’s sights in Leicester ace Maguire – despite a huge asking price.
Nevertheless, Leicester are not prepared to let him go easily, slapping a whopping £90m price-tag on the former Hull man, who cost them £17m two years ago. United are reluctant to go as high as that fee and have offered £70m – but will up their bid when one deal is done. Lukaku is attracting attention from Inter Milan after Antonio Conte made the Belgian his top target this summer.
The former Everton forward is keen to leave after being told by Solskjaer that he is no longer first choice. Man Utd ready to sign £80m Harry Maguire after completing one transfer.
Conte, though, is so keen on Lukaku that he is prepared to sell players such as Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan to fund a move. However, the Independent report that if that transfer does go through then United will use those funds to buy Maguire. They go on to state that they believe a fee of £80m would be enough to convince the Foxes to part with the Yorkshireman. Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on Maguire’s future – stating that they are under no pressure to sell.
”There’s a lot of speculation around Harry but he’s just got on with it. Like I’ve always said, we’re all pretty relaxed with it,” he said.
“We have two weeks left to go in the window for all of the players. I think it’s just a case of everyone staying focused.
“Harry has been brilliant since the first day of pre-season and we have no need to sell him. Until something changes, there is nothing more to say”.
